SAG-AFTRA Merger Vote Passes

As of March 30, it is now official: passed by an overwhelming majority, there is one actor union and it will be known as SAG-AFTRA.  Here is a good article from the New York Times outlining the ramifications of the deal.  Exactly how it will affect the working-class actor remains to be seen, but what is certain is that no longer will there be two unions undercutting one another for the same jobs.  And no longer will actors be trying to qualify for two separate health/pension plans.  It's about time!

  2. I've been reading a lot about this merger (I'm from New Zealand and we don't have SAG-AFTRA here) but it sounds like it was a smart idea to do this.

It's one less (very small) thing I have to worry about when I come over to LA next year!
